It’s no secret that Rumi Carter’s surprise debut at Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” tour earlier this summer was a hilarious and beautiful sight to see. But now, we’re learning a bit more about how it transpired in the first place and exactly how her big sister Blue Ivy was able to help Rumi get herself together!

If you’ll remember, during the first few nights, Rumi was over the moon at seeing the thousands of screaming fans at each show. In fact, her joy was so overwhelming, some people online took her reactions as a sign of potential autism and other things.
Shortly after, it seemed all the online chatter somehow made it’s way back to Bey’s camp as evidenced by a subsequent show where a very demure and subdued Rumi popped out, sans fanfare.
At the time, some fans joked that maybe Blue had something to do with it. Now, we know that Rumi’s demeanor did, in fact, have something to do with Blue and an apparent conversation they had, according to their grandmother Tina Knowles.
This behind-the-scenes scoop was revealed during a new interview on the “Sherri” show where both Knowles and host Sherri Shepherd reflected on the tour and how in awe everyone was at Rumi. That’s when “Mama Tina” shared that it was her youngest granddaughter’s idea to pop out during a part of the show.
But in a move that should come as a surprise to no one, Knowles revealed that Rumi ultimately had to get some big sister advice from Blue to help her get a grip on her excitement early on when the tour began.
“She [Rumi] would come out and the first night she was so excited, but people were making all these crazy comments,” Knowles explained. And Blue was like ‘Rumi you might need to calm it down.’”
Knowles later went on to share that she was encouraging Rumi to give the crowd a twirl or wink while she was onstage during the tour stops, but she ultimately didn’t have to make any suggestions as Rumi had it all figured out already.
“I said ‘what are you gonna do tonight? Because you know I was encouraging her to do a little twirl or wink or whatever,” Knowles said. “And she [Rumi] said: ‘be myself!’ So she was and it was really good for her confidence.”
