Conscious rapper and black Twitter denizen Talib Kweli mixed it up with Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and his fans on social media this weekend.

Kweli apparently caught wind of the interview:
In the interview, Simmons went on to question the validity of inducting icons like Grandmaster Flash and Run-DMC into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and said he looked forward to โthe death of rap.โ
Kweli summarily came for Simmonsโ head by asking if maybe someone could say the same of Simmons.
โHip-hop has saved countless lives. How dare he wish it dead,โ Kweli asked. And then: โSo would it be fair to wish him dead, or nah?โ
The former Black Star rapper and activist went toe-to-toe with Kiss fans this weekend and compared the 40-year-old bandโknown more for its look than its musicโto โmarketing.โ
As this thing went back and forth, Kweli responded to Kiss fans and took no tea for the fever.ย
The New York Daily News reports that Simmons responded to the backlash this weekend and cleaned up his comments โฆ kinda.
โApparently pointing out that everything is cyclicalโeven musicโis โcontroversial,โโ he tweeted Friday. โPeople are very easily offended.โ
โPointing out everything is โcyclicalโ is different than โlooking forwardโ to things dying,โ Kweli fired back. โDo better Gene.โ
โThat doesnโt mean those arenโt good artists. But they donโt play guitar. They sample and they talk. Not even sing,โ Simmons responded. โRap will die. Next year, 10 years from now, at some point, and then something else will come along. And all that is good and healthy.โ
