According to the International Journal of Design and Nature and Ecodynamics, it's all in the belly button. The navel is the center of gravity of the body, which is apparently most important in movement. The study examined West African-origin runners and runners of European origin. And all this time we thought it was preparation, discipline, focus and skill.
