According to a statement, the show will center on a Los Angeles family in the ’80s “whose seemingly idyllic life is turned upside down by the collision of their community and American politics.” Joining Snoop Dogg as producer and director is Allen Hughes, whose previous projects include Menance II Society and The Book of Eli. Rodney Barnes, the executive producer of The Boondocks, will write the series.

In an interview with The Root, Barnes said the series is a “layered portrait of an American family during a time when the Reagan administration declared ‘say no to drugs,’ while the CIA was knowningly allowing drugs into America’s inner cities.”

A premiere date for the series has yet to be set.
