Williams was as cool as a cucumber when she heard the news.
โOh, was it? Cool. Oh, nice. I had no idea. Thatโs awesome, right? I think thatโs a lot of matches. Itโs a lot of wins,โ Williams said.
โI thought it was good. I still want to get out to a little bit of a faster start, but I was really focused and calm,โ she added. โObviously I love having that Sunday off, but Iโm a little behind in my matches, so I guess I had to play an extra day.โ
On that โextra day,โ today, Williams neatly beat Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, 7-5, 6-0.
The world No. 1 is vying for her seventh Wimbledon triumph.
