Sources told the news site that they were surprised at how well his fight was going.

“They thought he would die two years ago,” one source told the Post.

“People have been predicting his imminent demise. I’m sure he has the best … drugs money can buy,” added the source, described by the Post as someone who works closely with professional sports teams. “He can do anything to keep himself alive.”

Sterling, who was banned from the NBA for life and hit with a $2.5 million fine for racially charged comments he was heard to make, also has reportedly been phoning around asking friends to support him.

“He’s calling everyone, saying: ‘Tell me I’m not a racist,’” another source told the Post. According to that source, those friends are refusing, ironically out of fear of being recorded, which is what landed Sterling in the mess he faces in the first place.

According to the New York Post, insiders at ABC say Sterling is negotiating an interview with Barbara Walters, but ABC has not confirmed nor denied the report.
