Reggae star Buju Banton's drug trial has started. Banton, 37, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is accused of trying to further an already established drug trade by conspiring to gain new contacts. According to the article, Banton asked a government informant, "Do you have any contacts where I can get cocaine?" in a recorded conversation, Assistant U.S. Attorney James Preston told a jury in Tampa federal court. Wow, that's really discreet. Did we mention that they also have the deal and Banton "tasting" cocaine on videotape? Banton has been held without bail since his arrest in December on charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine and carrying a firearm during the course of a drug-trafficking crime. The four-time Grammy nominee faces a possible life sentence if convicted. We guess he didn't get the memo that when you become a major international music star, you should no longer be engaging in alleged criminal activity. Hint, hint, T.I. for Banton: The words "Boom Bye Bye" may now have a different meaning.
