(The Root) — With black voters backing President Barack Obama 97 percent to 1 percent over Gov. Mitt Romney, according to a recent poll, it's clear that this campaign is affected by race, whether or not the candidates openly discuss it.
The folks at BET News will examine the intersection of race and politics in Second Coming? Will Black America Decide 2012?, a two-part documentary that airs on Oct. 19 and 26 at 9 p.m. ET. It also addresses how black people are involved in and relate to some of the prominent issues in the election process this year.
The documentary follows a number of celebrities, pundits and volunteers — including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, 2 Chainz, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Kerry Washington, Cornell Belcher and others — as they work to mobilize blacks this election season. They confront issues such as the economic downturn, community violence and gay marriage.
After the documentary airs, viewers are encouraged to continue the conversation on the channel's Facebook page and on Twitter using the hashtag #BETObamaDoc.
