We're sure that the GOP is doing a happy dance. About one out of every 15 children in the United States was born to a family in which at least one parent is in this country illegally, according to a new Pew Research report. Four out of five of those 5.1 million children — including 340,000 born in 2008 — are "anchor babies,'' the Pew Hispanic Center concluded. Researchers say that illegal immigrants make up 4 percent of the U.S. population, while 6.8 percent of all children under 17 have at least one illegal immigrant parent. The report says that the births outpace the number of illegal immigrants overall because the parents are typically younger and have higher birth rates. The findings were released just in time for the GOP's attack on the 14th Amendment. Gee, thanks.
