Parents Defend Chicago Students Who Attacked Mother, Sparking Outrage

After a Chicago mother was brutally attacked by middle schoolers, the disturbing videos of the incident still has folks infuriated. Ever since the clips went viral, folks everywhere has spoken out; Mayor Brandon Johnson condemned the attack, the Far South Side community rallied together, and even The Breakfast Club named the students Donkey of the Day. But they aren’t the only ones speaking out, as parents of the kids involved just broke their silence.

We previously reported how 33-year-old Corshawnda Hatter and her 9-year-old son were jumped by Orville Bright Elementary School students Monday (Nov. 17). The students were captured on video punching, kicking, and stomping Hatter, who has sickle cell anemia, and her 9-year-old son, who could be seen trying to protect her.

“i had to watch my son get slammed to the ground while they were banging my sons head into the concrete he was tryna get to me because i was getting jumped he was terrified and so was my daughter,” Hatter wrote in a Facebook post.

After the videos made its rounds online, one of the students came forward and admitted to her involvement in a social media post, The Root previously told you.

“Hey. My name is Kamira Grant and I was wrong for everything I did,” the girl said in a Facebook post. She began to wipe her eyes, but no tears can be seen falling. She confessed she “was being a follower” and apologized, but added how she “gotta go through so much. I wish I wouldn’t never did what I did.”

The girl also said she’s now a “different person.”

Now, a woman who says she’s the parent of one of the female students is not only speaking out, but she’s defending her actions. She goes by Yaz St. Patrick on Facebook and she tried to check “grown mfs lookin for a Viral Moment” in a lengthy post.

She called her daughter, who she says is the captain of the cheerleading team, a “great ass kid.” Patrick continued, “We don’t owe NOBODY an apology bt That lady and her kids.”

The mom reasoned how, “kids gon be kids and it’s a kid out here that did way worse sh*t.” In the post, she added how her daughter was “peer pressured,” and if you “know her family you know if we find a friend in a mf” we “gon stand behind them 100% no matter what.” To conclude, she wrote: “Feel how yall want,” with an oh-so-classy, “Fuck Yall.”

The post— and her page— can no longer be found after she proclaimed how “everybody standin 10 Toes behind her” with numerous exclamation points.

Her post angered folks and they immediately let her have it.

“Let the games begin lol if I were her, I’d be scared to go outside,” one person wrote on Facebook.

A second person commented: “Justifying that video is absolutely wild.”

“Poor little girl never had a chance with a mother like that,” another person said.

Liyah Vonchae came forward as the aunt of some of the kids involved on Facebook. In a screenshot, she allegedly defended them, writing, “IDK why everybody mad them my nieces and nephews they did what needed to be done idc.” That post has seemingly also been deleted.

In a positive update, officials are working to move Hatter to a safe, undisclosed location, according to ABC 7. Hatter also plans to press charges against the kids’ parents, CBS News reports.

Additionally, the outlet reports she’s exploring legal action against the school for allegedly failing to act after her son was bullied for two years because of how she walks and talks due to her disease.
