Police caught an 8-year-old girl and her 12-year-brother in an elaborate hoax Monday after an innocent man they claimed stalked them turned himself in to authorities. The pair claimed that the man had followed them to school, flagged down a school bus in an attempt to get one of them off and left a threatening note at their home in the Crown Heights neighborhood of the New York City borough.

The note, like the rest of their story, turned out to be made up wholesale by the lying-ass kids.

According to the New York Daily News, the kidsโ€™ story quickly fell apart after the innocent man turned himself in Monday afternoon at the 69th Precinct to dispute the claims. The Police Department had circulated surveillance footage of the man that morning and asked the public to come forward with any information they might have about the accused stalker.

Police havenโ€™t confirmed what prompted the kids to smear an innocent man, but the Daily News reports that the two siblings crafted the elaborate hoax because they were โ€œmad at their babysitter.โ€ According to the outlet, the kidsโ€™ parents were on vacation at the time.

And you thought you did petty shit.

In one final plot twistโ€”not that this story needs itโ€”the children may be no strangers to the Police Department. The kidsโ€™ father? Heโ€™s reportedly an NYPD detective.
