According to Deadline, the rapper will executive-produce and star in an ABC Family comedy series about her childhood in Queens, N.Y. Minaj’s parents were Trinidadian immigrants to the U.S.—making Minaj a first-generation black American who is probably equipped with a boatload of funny and interesting stories to tell about her and her family’s cultural experiences adjusting to the U.S.

The show will shoot its pilot episode in the winter.

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” Karey Burke, an ABC programming executive, said. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Minaj also shared her excitement about this new venture.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

ABC has been hitting the ball out of the park when it comes to portraying unique cultural experiences (Fresh Off the Boat, Black-ish), so I think Minaj’s comedy series appearing on its cable network ABC Family is fitting. The show has a great home.
