The infamous fight between Solange Knowles and Jay-Z has remained as pop culture’s biggest industry mystery. For years, the public tried to piece together what led the “Cranes In The Sky” singer to put her hands on her brother-in-law. Now, more than a decade later, a new witness is finally coming forward to spill the tea on what really went down in the elevator, and you won’t believe who is speaking out.

Back in 2014, after the Met Gala, it went down in the elevator between Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Solange. After leaving an afterparty at The Standard Hotel, video footage captured Solange kicking, hitting, and screaming at her brother, Jay-Z, as Beyoncé stood aside. The footage was later leaked online, causing plenty of online commotion.
Rumors began to circulate, with the most popular rumor centered on the mysterious “Becky,” the unidentified woman mentioned a few times in Beyoncé’s studio album, “Lemonade,” whom many believed was Rachel Roy, Jay-Z’s alleged mistress.
Now, eleven years later, fashion designer Oscar G. Lopez, who designed Rachel Roy’s 2014 Met Gala dress, is speaking out. According to The Daily Mail, Lopez claims that Jay-Z complimented Rachel Roy’s dress at the event, which ticked off Beyoncé’s little sister, Solange.
“I think that Jay complimented her about the gown and Beyoncé’s sister felt that it was not proper, so it was a kind of drama there,’ he told The Daily Mail.
It wasn’t the only altercation that night. It was also reported that Solange was intoxicated and got into a verbal argument with Rachel Roy at the 2014 Met Gala. Witnesses described her as “like a pressure cooker waiting to explode,” citing that she had one too many drinks and was “dancing like a crazy person” by the time performances began.
Another source said Solange confronted Roy again after arriving at The Standard, prompting another woman to intervene, and Beyoncé immediately stepped in. When the woman asked Solange, “What is your problem?” Beyoncé checked her, saying, “You don’t get to speak to my sister that way.” Tuh, as she should.
The whole ordeal made headlines, drawing all eyes to Rachel Roy’s black lace dress designed by Lopez.
“The dress was all over the news. That was so funny,” he said, adding that “any press is good press,” and calling the attention “collateral damage.”
Lopez also dismissed the longstanding rumors that Roy was Jay-Z’s mistress, calling the speculation “silly” and noting her past marriage to his former business partner, Dame Dash. Roy got her start as an intern at Rocawear, rose to the role of creative director and later launched her own line.
Following the 2014 elevator incident, Jay-Z and Solange released a joint statement “apologizing to one another” for the altercation and said they would “be moving forward as a family unit.”
With all this hot tea, social media ran to the timelines to share their thoughts.
“People forget — that moment wasn’t about fashion. It was years of boundaries, loyalty, and emotions all exploding in a tiny elevator.” one X user posted.
Another joked, “Man just said ‘nice dress’ and Solange activated like a security system with motion sensors. Elevator turned into WrestleMania in 0.2 seconds.”
Still, some weren’t buying into the story.
“As a stable Black woman, I’m telling you this ain’t just about a compliment,” another user posted.
