More than 60 women and girls in Nigeria have returned to safety after having escaped their abductors, suspected to be Boko Haram militants, Agence France-Presse reports.

Their escape was confirmed Sunday, according to the report, with local vigilante Abbas Gava telling the news agency that he had “received an alert … that about 63 abducted women and girls had made it back home.”
Although that group, abducted in June, has safely made it home, there are still more than 200 schoolgirls missing from April kidnappings in Chibok, Nigeria.
According to Time magazine, the escape for the June abductees follows an encounter Friday between Nigerian soldiers and Boko Haram in Borno, where about 50 insurgents were killed as the soldiers defended its military base.
The commanding officer and five other Nigerian soldiers lost their lives in the fight, Time reports.
