Mo’ne Davis Named SportsKid of the Year

To call Mo’ne Davis a phenomenon would be an understatement. The Little Leaguer, with a pitching arm some adults could only dream of, has been on a roll this year. Mo’ne, who is only in the eighth grade, took baseball by storm when she became the first female player to pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series.

From that point on, it was perfectly clear: Mo’ne was someone to keep an eye on. From Harper’s Bazaar to Teen Vogue and a documentary directed by Spike Lee, Mo’ne has lived an extraordinary year. And it’s not over yet.

On Monday Mo’ne was named Sports Illustrated Kids’ SportsKid of the Year 2014. Mo’ne, an honor student from Philadelphia, was spoken highly of by the sports magazine. It said Mo’ne shows that everyone has the ability to make an impact and inspire, regardless of age, gender or race.
