After Harris-Perry made the point that without social mobility the United States wouldn’t be the same country, and that these days there’s less of it, financial analyst Monica Mehta piped up that America was built on business owners who take risks. And while her comment in a different context might not have been incendiary, it’s clear that those words were the straw that broke Harris-Perry’s back when they were used as a qualifier for which Americans deserve help.
