Oct. 21, Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, White House Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes announced that she would be stepping down at the end of the year. During an "Open for Questions" Q&A session moderated by The Root at the White House, our Washington reporter, Cynthia Gordy, asked Barnes to weigh in on the legacy she leaves in domestic policy.

"I think we have been able to make changes, even though there's still so much work to be done," replied Barnes, pointing out the Obama administration's work on education as something she is particularly proud to have helped shape. She also shared personal anecdotes about her parents and their love of education.
