Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, filed for divorce in Orange County Superior Court today, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
In a statement, the couple said they have “resolved all the issues” related to their divorce in private. “We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time,” they said in the statement.
It was only eight years ago when Bryant was charged in Colorado with raping a 19-year-old resort employee. He then held a news conference with his wife beside him, acknowledging having sex with the woman but saying that it was consensual. The criminal case was eventually dropped.
Not long after, he felt the need to “make up” with his wife and bought her an 8-carat purple diamond ring worth $8 million.
Let’s just say this divorce will cost him much more than that.
