A KKK group in Florida targeted the New Smyrna Beach area, a mostly black neighborhood, with flyers, news channel WFTV reports.
Tim Washington was headed to work when he saw the Xeroxed image of a Klansman with the words, "Our Race Is Our Nation" across the front. "[I] saw that it was a piece of paper on the ground and it had hate stuff on it," Washington told WFTV.
Officials say the infamous hate group sent the flyers to a Florida KKK affiliate and leaders then dropped hundreds of them in a New Smyrna Beach neighborhood in an effort to recruit new members.
Washington and at least three other residents called police to report the hate-speech literature.
KKK leader Robert Jones said during a phone interview with WFTV that members dropped the flyers at night, so they had no idea who lived in the neighborhood.
Ericka Blount, a New Smyrna Beach resident, had this message for the KKK: "Stay away from our neighborhood. We live together here. All different races."
While the group hasn't recruited one person from the immediate area, it still plans to pass out up to 600 flyers in this area in the coming days.
