Specifically, she’s recalling a point in her life where she was considering becoming a nun. Yes, you read that right—a full blown NUN! If this comes as a surprise to you, then it arguably shouldn’t especially considering how the “Girls Trip” star first opened up about the decision in September 2025 while chatting with comedian Amy Poehler.

Now, she’s getting into the specifics a bit more in a new conversation with TODAY Show host Craig Melvin for his “Glass Half Full” podcast. During their chat, Hall shared that it was a bad breakup that took place a few years prior that sent her down the path to figuring out if the nun life was made for her.

“It made the breakup worth it. I just saw all the beauty in the divine orchestration of things, and I thought it was great,” she said.

She later said that she took the initial step and compared the journey to going ring shopping, almost walking down the aisle but stopping just short of saying “I do.”

“It was significant, I think it was significant but what was more significant is the time that led up to me to do it… The incredible romance I was having with God. It was incredible. It was an incredible time of meditation, of like prayer and quiet. It was just an incredible, peaceful time,” Hall said.

When Melvin pushed for further clarity, the “Scary Movie” star pointed to the breakup and said that despite that physical separation it led her to getting closer with God and building that spiritual “romance.”

However, she later admitted that she wasn’t let into the nunnery ultimately because of her age.

“I was ‘too seasoned’ [age-wise]. They had an age thing. I don’t know, it was like 39 and I was a little north of that,” Hall said with a laugh. “Not all of them, every order is different. Some have age, some have sexual partners, some have family connections. They all have a different, they have their own different specificities.”
