According to the paper, the man, identified by jail and police records as Kasey Nesbitt, 35, was booked on suspicion of rape and aggravated burglary. Police did not confirm his identity.

The Eagle reports that the assault occurred the night of Sept. 29. The morning of Sept. 30, the elderly woman went over to a neighbor’s house and said that there were people in her house.

“She’s a strong and brave woman who was able to give us information,” Wichita Police Capt. Troy Livingston said about the elderly woman. “She seems to be doing fine, and her family is taking care of her.”

According to reports, the woman lived alone and said that she was woken up around 9 p.m. to people in her house. At least one burglar came in by forcing open a back door. They stayed in the house for several hours, according to the Wichita Eagle.

“This case was harder for our detectives to even grasp, not just the detectives on the case but all the detectives,” Livingston said.“They were all pretty shocked by this.”
