Isaiah Washington, who was fired from ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in 2007 for calling cast member T.R. Knight an anti-gay epithet, is throwing on the scrubs once again for a guest appearance on the show in May.

According to the Associated Press, Washington’s return as Dr. Preston Burke coincides with the announced departure of series star Sandra Oh, whose character, Dr. Cristina Yang, was engaged to Washington’s Dr. Burke at one point in the long-running drama.

While it is clear that the season will end in May, no date was announced for the episode in which Washington will appear.

In 2007, at the height of the controversy over Washington’s use of a homophobic slur, he would use the epithet again backstage at the Golden Globe Awards. He would later publicly apologized and meet with gay-rights organizations in an attempt to make amends, AP reports.
