Launched by Washington Post CEO Donald E. Graham and Harvard professor Gates, The Root is current, insightful, and provocative. Most distinctive feature: an interactive genealogical section that traces one’s ancestry through AfricanDNA.com, a testing site co-founded by Gates. The Mission: “This is an historic endeavor — The Root is one of the world’s first Web-based magazines dedicated to reporting and commenting upon the interests, concerns and achievements of African Americans and people of African descent throughout the world.”
