But while his arrest is concerning, itβs the reasoning thatβs the real surpriseβas the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the alleged Atlanta-native is actually from the United Kingdom and has overstayed his visa.
ο»Ώ21 Savage, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was taken into custody in a βtargeted operationβ in metro Atlanta, ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said.
Abraham-Joseph, 26, has claimed to be from Atlanta and has long been considered a local act. Just last fall, he gave free school supplies to more than 2,500 DeKalb County school students.
Cox, however, said Abraham-Joseph is an βunlawfully present United Kingdom nationalβ who came to the U.S. on a visa in July 2005. His visa expired a year later, Cox said.
Abraham-Joseph has been placed in βremoval proceedings before the federal immigration courts,β Cox said.
Yikes.
According to officials, the early-morning arrest stemmed from a traffic stop in DeKalb County that included the arrest of three other people who were with him by DeKalb police.
This shocking development comes on the heels of tremendous success for the 26-year-old rapper, whose latest release βI Am > I Was,β debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
