A Florida man who doused his girlfriend’s 3-month-old puppy with hot sauce will be spending a year in prison, followed by 18 months’ probation, the Herald-Tribune reports.

The spicy condiment got in the dog’s eyes and throat, causing Gizmo to have trouble breathing and swelling his eyes shut. The puppy’s owner rushed the dog to a local fire station, where he was treated, the Herald-Tribune reports.
Myles, who pleaded no contest to charges of animal cruelty, was also ordered to complete an anger-management course and can never own a pet or reside in a home with animal. He also cannot have contact with the dog’s owner.
