The Root in Washington, D.C., will celebrate the newest lot of emerging African-American leaders at this year's Congressional Black Caucus Emerging Leaders Series reception during the 2011 CBC Annual Leadership Conference, this Thursday, Sept. 22, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel (RSVP required). Before the reception, our partner Impact will throw a red-carpet affair (invite only; RSVP required), celebrating the organization's fifth anniversary, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building. After the reception, the Corcoran Art Gallery will host The Root and Impact's After Party (invite only; RSVP required) from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Please join us at the CBC Annual Leadership Conference's engaging panel discussions. The Root's Washington reporter, Cynthia Gordy, and editor-at-large, Nsenga Burton, will serve as moderators for two of them.

Gordy will moderate and weigh in on education reform and the future of the American education system during “The Miseducation of Capitol Hill? Reforming Education Policy” discussion on Friday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place, NW, Room 147-B).

Burton will facilitate "Anatomy of a Revolution: From Alabama to Egypt," a discussion on the role of black youths in organizing and sustaining change around the world, on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center (Room 207-A).

To register for these and other 2011 CBC Annual Leadership Conference events, visit the CBC's Web site.

Correction: An earlier version did not indicate that the Emerging Leaders Reception requires an RSVP for admittance and the Impact reception and The Root's party are invite only and require an RSVP.

Previous recommendation: R&B Singer Joe to Release New Album.
