Not only has Empire won the TV ratings war, but with the release of the official soundtrack on March 10, it’s also now No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

According to Billboard, it’s the first television soundtrack to debut at No. 1 since 2010, when three different Glee albums made the list. Empire’s soundtrack even topped Madonna’s much-anticipated album Rebel Heart.

What Empire has proved is that soundtracks can still thrive. Back in the day, every movie had a soundtrack. But who would have thought that a TV show’s soundtrack would take off the way that it has? Well, I’m sure that fans and creators of Empire realized that.

As millions of people sit back tonight and watch the two-hour season finale of Empire—while listening to the soundtrack and tweeting incessantly about the show—people can only wonder what next season will have in store. But most of us are still trying to figure out what’s going to happen tonight.
