The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., is seeking a teen-program public relations consultant. The Hirshhorn has received several grants to build a digital media center for teens, particularly those with otherwise limited access to technology and to the arts. The HMSG Public Programs department has overseen the building of the ArtLab and has designed and offered many programs for teens. ArtLab programs, called ARTLAB+, have served more than 900 teens since opening in June 2010.
A dedicated, autonomous professional is needed to explore the most effective options for reaching youths ages 13 to 19 from across the metropolitan-Washington area. The ideal candidate will identify about 10 strategies for advertising ARTLAB+ to local youths and/or influential members of their communities. Within 15 days of the contract, the PR consultant will produce a report on strategies to best reach specific demographics, and how each fits with the Hirshhorn's mission.
He or she will also develop a cost-benefit analysis of about five effective strategies for expanding the Hirshhorn's audience. The PR consultant will work with HMSG staff to implement at least one of the strategies and provide weekly status reports to the director of public programs.
To apply for this job, candidates must have an advanced degree in fine art, communication or education and work experience in the arts and technology-based educational programming, as well as in promoting such to teen audiences. He or she must be knowledgeable about community organizations, groups and leaders, as well as youth culture in the metropolitan-Washington region; possess project-planning and management skills; and be able to work with people of of all ages, cultures, income levels and educational backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and computer literacy are also required.
