A Chicago woman has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond in the death of her boyfriend, whom, police say, she forced to drink bleach during a fight.

According to Rolling Out, 24-year-old Yasmine Elder was charged Wednesday in the death of 26-year-old Darrius Ellis after a physical altercation in a parked van.
Early Monday morning, police say, the two began to fight and Elder grabbed Ellis’ locked hair, pinned him down with her knees and poured the bleach on his face.
The outlet reports that first responders found Ellis unconscious on the pavement and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 3:26 a.m., a little over an hour after the assault.
The Cook County, Ill., Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and listed the cause of death as a homicide from “complications from forcible administration of a caustic substance.”
Elder was arrested Wednesday and charged with her boyfriend’s death, and the Associated Press reports that Elder has been ordered held on $1 million bond.
Family and friends described Ellis as the hardworking father of a 5-year-old son. He was a graduate of Kennedy-King College and worked as a welder.
