According to the New York Daily News, Alejandro Done, 47, “pleaded guilty on Friday to charges of aggravated rape, kidnapping and assault and battery.” In December, Done convinced his victim that he was the Uber driver she had ordered. He drove the woman to a secluded area, covered her mouth to muffle her screams and sexually assaulted her.

DNA evidence from Done has also been linked to five unsolved rape cases dating back to 2006, the Daily News reports.

“The defendant preyed upon a young woman who trusted that he was who he portrayed himself to be,” Middlesex County, Mass., District Attorney Marian Ryan told the Daily News.

Ryan noted that although the car service is convenient, passengers should always take precautions. “While these apps are a modern convenience, they are not without their risks,” Ryan told the Daily News.

“This is a despicable crime, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim during her recovery,” Uber spokeswoman Kaitlin Durkosh told the Daily News.
