It’s been two months since someone broke into an SUV in Atlanta and ran off with unreleased music and footage from none other than Beyoncé. Now, police have made an arrest in the case, but it’s not all good news…
Back in July, just two days before Beyoncé started her four-day residency in Atlanta, a report was made by Beyoncé’s choreographer that the superstar’s unreleased music was stolen from their rental van in Atlanta, according to The Independent.
Now, police have named Kelvin Evans as a prime suspect in the tour bus heist. He was taken into custody on Tuesday (Sept. 16) for a parole violation, TMZ reported. But while investigators believe they’ve found their guy, there’s still one mystery that hasn’t been solved… What happened to the stolen hard drives?
Bad news for Beyhive: the missing music is still nowhere to be found. But if you’re wondering how we got to this point, here’s everything you need to know.
Beyoncé’s choreographer, Christopher Grant, and her dancer Diandre Blue parked their rental Jeep Wagoneer in a garage at Krog Street Market, a popular food market in Atlanta back in July. When they returned, an hour later, the trunk of the van was damaged, and they saw that two suitcases had been stolen, according to The Guardian.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, the suitcases that were taken contained “watermarked music, some unreleased music, footage, plans for the show, and past and future setlists.” To add to the injury, AirPod Max headphones, MacBook laptops, and clothing pieces were also stolen.
Police managed to obtain footage of the incident, as well as discovered two fingerprints, and they were able to find the location of one of the laptops through Apple’s “Find My” feature, according to ABC. Units of officers were sent to search the area where the laptop was reported to be, and conducted a suspicious person stop.
Beyoncé finished the last show of her Atlanta residency yesterday (July 14) and will be on her way to Las Vegas for a two-day stop to finish her tour. No reports of delays or plan changes to the tour have been made.
The Beyhive has had a lot to say in reaction to the news of the theft and the ongoing investigation:
One fan on X wrote, “I wouldn’t leave a 10pc (wing combo) unattended in Atlanta, but Beyoncé thumb drives?!”
“Beyoncé never stepping foot in Atlanta again,” wrote another.
Other fans lamented about the theft, believing that it means Beyoncé will decide not to release the Act III album:
Though no arrest has been made just yet, not all hope is lost for Beyoncé, her team, and her fans, as an arrest warrant has been issued for an unidentified suspect, according to Pitchfork.
