The outlet reports that the endorsement was finalized Thursday morning when Carson met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach, Fla., luxury club owned by the Republican front-runner.

According to sources, Carson has come to see Trump as the GOPโ€™s best chance for getting disillusioned voters out to the polls and winning the general election in November.

On Thursday, on Fox News Radio, the retired neurosurgeon said that he was โ€œleaning towardโ€ a candidate and said that Trump is a smart guy.

โ€œThereโ€™s two Donald Trumps. Thereโ€™s the Donald Trump that you see on television and who gets out in front of big audiences, and thereโ€™s the Donald Trump behind the scenes,โ€ he said. โ€œTheyโ€™re not the same person. Oneโ€™s very much an entertainer, and one is actually a thinking individual.โ€

On March 3, Carson dropped out of the Republican presidential race, saying that he didnโ€™t see โ€œa path forwardโ€ with his own campaign.
