Ify started out using a simple needle and thread to create her designs but then moved on to a sewing machine.

In an interview with Today, the Queens, N.Y., fifth-grader recounted how she was bullied.

“I was bullied and they called me all kinds of names,” she said. “One time, I got stabbed with a pencil.”

Ify’s Chubiiline fashions were featured at this year’s New York Fashion Week, and she describes the clothing as “Africa to America one design at a time.”
