Accused San Bernardino Attacker Tashfeen Malik Pledged Allegiance to ISIS on Social Media: Report

There is still little known about Tashfeed Malik, who, along with husband Syed Rizwan Farook, is accused of carrying out a bloody massacre at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, Calif.

Now, however, a source with knowledge of the investigation told NPR that Malik had pledged allegiance to ISIS, or Islamic State, leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on a Facebook page around the time of the attack.

According to the report, the federal source said that the statement on social media should not be taken as evidence that the attack was coordinated or ordered by the notorious terrorist organization. The Facebook account used was reportedly created under an alias. 

As NPR notes, as more details come out about the case, including that Malik and Farook reportedly built crude explosive devices, investigators are exploring the possibility that the couple could have “self-radicalized,” inspired by ISIS.
