To the surprise of literally no one, GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy recruited a former congressman with a racist past for the second day of the Commit to Caucus event in Iowa on Wednesday.

Ramaswamy brought former Iowa Rep. Steve King on on stage to say a few words and stump for for his campaign to be president. If you don’t know King, in 2020, King lost his seat after notoriously throwing around racist phrases such as “white nationalist” and “white supremacist” with reckless abandon.
He also said that humans exist as a result of babies born from rape and incest. Yet this didn’t deter Vivek “The Civil War Was Good For Black People” Ramaswamy from cozying up to King. When asked about his past remarks during a campaign on Tuesday in Northwood, Ramaswamy quickly defended King.
“I don’t think Steve King is a white supremacist,” Ramaswamy stated. “I don’t think he’s any [sic] close to that.” King returned the favor by singing Ramaswamy’s praises.
“If I were going to give you a speech about all the things that I disagree with that I heard Vivek Ramaswamy say, it’d be the shortest speech of my life,” said King.
The pair are working against the proposed use of eminent domain to build a carbon capture pipeline through Iowa. Ramaswamy said Wednesday, “I’m proud that Steve King and I were able to spend a productive day together, and I’m proud to have his positive commentary and the kinds of supportive commentary that he’s offered. I think we’re gonna be doing more together.”
Ramaswamy has also recently come under fire for saying that the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol was an “inside job.” Even though there is no evidence to support this claim, he stands by this statement.
“The reality is, we know that there were federal law enforcement agents in the field. We don’t know how many,” Ramaswamy has stated. He has also expressed support for former President Donald Trump even though he is running against him.
