An actor who lost nearly everything has plenty to be thankful for as he celebrated his teenage son’s birthday in the wake of a dangerous storm that destroyed their Georgia home. Tray Chaney, who is best known for his role as Poot on HBO’s hit series “The Wire,” was at home with his son Malachi on the afternoon of May 29 when a tornado struck their neighborhood. According to 11 Alive Atlanta, the National Weather Service confirmed the storm was an EF-2 with winds up to 135 miles per hour. Those dangerous winds completely leveled the home and threw Malachi nearly 300 feet into the woods, leaving the teenager with broken ribs and a fractured facial bone.
Tray, who has been sharing updates on his son Malachi’s condition with his followers on social media, called the day of the storm one of the worst of his life.

Although Malachi had to spend his 19th birthday recovering from his injuries in the ICU, his family says the fact that he is alive and able to speak is nothing short of a miracle.
“This amazing kid, young man was thrown as if he was on a football field…and how is he still able to say ‘I love you, Mom, I love you, Dad,” Tray told Atlanta News First.
A GoFundMe that was started to help the family rebuild from the damage caused by the storm has raised over $90,000.
