A show Comedy Central gave the greenlight in 2017 will finally make its way to television next month.

The New Negroes stars Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle. And as Vulture reports, it is touted as a hybrid of stand-up comedy sets and live musical performances.
There are eight episodes in the first season. Along with the stand-up sets, there will be original music videos that feature Open Mike Eagle performing alongside musical guests such as Method Man, Lizzo, MF Doom, Danny Brown, Father, Phonte and Sammus.
Comedians will also make guest appearances, including Hannibal Buress, Chris Redd, Lil Rel Howery, Sasheer Zamata, Dulcé Sloan, Sam Jay, George Wallace, and Donnell Rawlings.
Vaughn and Eagle explained the show’s title and mission to Vulture, saying “Our series gets its title and its mission from a book named The New Negro by Alain Locke. That book was a collection of essays, poetry, fiction, and music from a generation of emerging artists credited with launching the Harlem Renaissance. In other words, it was a place where black people shared their lives, their perspectives, and their ideals. It was a place where black people could define themselves instead of being defined by others. Our show aspires to do the same with stand-up comedy, music, and music videos. We’re paying homage to that original movement by inviting comedians and musicians to do what they do best: speak.”
In Open Mike Eagle’s own words, he does the rap, and Baron does the stand-up.
