    The Most Hilarious Moments From Tyler Perry’s Stage Plays

    People may have mixed feelings about Tyler Perry and his body of work, but about 20 years ago, his stage plays were all Black folks could talk about. And there’s plenty of reasons for that.

    Not only were they our first introduction to “Madea,” the plays also gave a platform to myriad of other talented comedic actors, actresses and singers like Cassi Davis, Terrell Carter, Chandra Currelley-Young, Cheryl “Pepsii” Riley, Lavan Davis, David and Tamela Mann and more. Those plays also gave us belly laughs so deep, a lot of us ran to get our hands on the DVDs so we could watch with our friends and family.

    Fast forward to today’s digital age however, scenes from Perry’s most memorable plays have now found their way to TikTok where fans from the early days and newer audiences who are just now getting hip are cracking up clip after clip.

    Seeing that as the case, we thought it’d be fun to take a look at some of those hilarious moments and rounded up a handful for your viewing pleasure. While some of Perry’s current projects may be hit or miss, rest assured his plays will give you the satisfaction you were looking for. Keep reading to get into the hilarity!

    “This Is Your Grandaddy”

    Oh come on, you already know we had to start off strong with “Meet the Browns.” Black family reunions were forever changed when this song was introduced into the mainstream. David and Tamela Mann as Mr. Brown and Cora will always be a comedic match made in heaven.

    “You’ve Got to Cook. And Clean and Wash Everythang”

    “Madea Goes to Jail” is probably in the top three when it comes to the best Tyler Perry plays and this song about what women need to do to get a man to take care of them is one of the main reasons why. This song has had prime real estate in a lot of Millennials’ minds for years now and it’s all thanks to Tyler Perry.

    “Doctor, You Sure That’s All You Need?”

    D’Atra Hicks, you will always be famous. “What’s Done In the Dark” is top-tier comedy because of you!!

    “Ain’t Nothin’ Like A Good Man”

    @yungyellah

    The best song in a Tyler Perry play and everybody’s FAVORITE #FYP

    ♬ original sound – Yung Yellah

    One thing about “Meet the Browns,” there was some good singing going on. And this trio song between Trina Braxton, Demetria Mckinney, and Nicki Gilbert (from Brownstone) with background instrumentation(?) from Tamela Mann was just proof of that.

    “Sonny If Little Tommy”

    Poor Sonny…he was too handsome to be that many French fries short of a Happy Meal, if you get our drift. Him finding out in “Madea Goes to Jail” that his son wasn’t really his was entertaining as much as it was painful.

    The Best/Worst Prayer Over the Food

    @thecrownedassistant_

    Tyler Perry plays gone always give a good laugh 🤣🤣😂 I cant be the only one that knows this verbatim! #tylerperry #unclecurtis #whydidigetmarried #tylerperryplay #latenightlaughs

    ♬ original sound – N E S H A 🤍👑

    Tyler Perry owes us all a level of pain and suffering restitution for having to sit through this prayer in “Why Did I Get Married” because we’ve all had to endure this in real life while waiting to just eat a meal. My God today, this was too close to home (but still so hilarious). That falsetto “two WINGS” will never get old.

    Mr. Brown and That Toupee

    @easylikepheezy

    This part used to have me WEAK 😭 this lil smidgen of wig on Mr. brown’s head #tylerperry #mrbrown #madea #fyp

    ♬ original sound – Pheezy

    (Author’s note: It took me a solid seven minutes to pick myself off the floor after watching this scene over and over again. The baby cape, the beat boxing, the split-second Earth, Wind & Fire song selection, the woman wiping his sweat off her hand, THE EXTRA SMEDIUM TOUPEE. There’s too much goodness in “Meet the Browns.”)

    “Cos-Mer-To-Lergy”

    This scene from “Madea’s Big Happy Family” was so iconic, if you don’t pronounce cosmetology school as “cosmertolergy” to this day, can you even call yourself a Tyler Perry play fan?

    Willie, the Schizophrenic “Bartender”

    @s0ulfll.brdie

    Willie was one of the best Madea characters out of TP franchise #madeasclassreunion#madea#tylerperry

    ♬ original sound – Shay G

    Arguably one of Tyler Perry’s best roles, Willie from “Madea’s Class Reunion” had the best lines in this entire play. It’s a shame he never brought him back around!

    When We All Found Out Tyler Perry Could Sing

    @_therealmrsjai

    This is when i found out Tyler Perry could sing. My favorite play. tylerperry madeagoestojail

    ♬ original sound – Mrs.Jai

    Fun fact about this scene from “Madea Goes to Jail”: this was the first time Tyler Perry ever sang live in front of people. And he did it a pretty decent job! But also, Madea busting out in this tenor voice was so out the blue and funny.

    Madea Calls Out Late Guests

    Showing up late to a Tyler Perry production back in the day was a recipe for disaster a.k.a. an opportunity for you to be thrusted into the spotlight–much like this couple found themselves in years ago.

    Palmer Williams Jr. a.k.a. “Floyd” Going Off-Script

    “Laugh to Keep from Crying” may be a play that some people won’t immediately recall but it doesn’t mean that it’s not still filled with it’s hilarious moments. One of those moments comes from Palmer Williams Jr.–when he hits that Dru Hill jump, you might as well call us dead!

    “Clear The Room!”

    Taking it back to “Why Did I Get Married,” the tension escalating in the room between Trina, Sheila and Diana was already entertaining but it was Poppy (LaVan Davis)’s one-liner that cemented this scene as iconic and ultra-hilarious!

    “Oink, Oink, Oink”

    Once again, “Madea’s Class Reunion” came through with some of the funniest gems ever. This clearly off-script moment when Madea was making fun of a woman who had stuff her feet into her shoes and gave her sound effects lives rent -free in all our heads!

    Bam Drops It Like It’s Hot

    When Bam goes to visit Madea in jail, she pulls a move that was so unexpected, she earned a 10 out of 10 from both her costar and the audience!
