The Black Man Behind The Quarter-Zip Movement Explains the Deeper Purpose Behind It All

Jason Gyamfi, the man behind the viral quarter-zip trend on TikTok says he has plans to make his movement even bigger in 2026.

For months, social media has been lit up with videos of Gen Z guys who have ditched their hoodies and coffee for quarter-zip sweaters and matcha, thanks to a now-viral post from content creator Jason Gyamfi. The New York native told viewers that his new look was part of an overall glow up that had him stepping up his style game by incorporating “grown man attire” and others are following suit.

In a recent appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show,” Gyamfi says he started rocking the swaggy sweaters during a period of transition in his own life. The 22-year-old, who has a degree in computer science, says that while he was interviewing for jobs, he wanted a look that was the perfectly professional happy medium between a suit and a pair of sweats.

“I didn’t want to overdress for the occasion, but at the same time, I still wanted to look like you could take me somewhere,” he said.

Now that he’s grown his platform, Gyamfi is convinced that what some thought was just a style trend is actually a lifestyle that includes fitness and faith. He’s incorporated posts of himself at the gym and hitting the slopes with a snowboard.

As the quarter-zip movement moves into 2026, Gyamfi says he’s focused on building his empire, which leaves him little time for a relationship with anybody other than the Lord.

“I feel like he takes up so much of my time,” he said. “Unfortunately, I can’t really look around and date around. He’ll be mad at me.”

But he is grateful for the massive online community he has built that he says has been incredibly positive and supportive.

“That community, it feels like everybody is just my friend,” he said
