The family of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old Cleveland boy who was gunned down by a police officer while on a playground, have filed amendments to their federal lawsuit, the Associated Press reports.

New attorneys representing the child’s family on Friday filed the updated federal lawsuit against the city, the officer who shot Tamir, another officer and unnamed emergency dispatchers, AP writes.
The complaint charges excessive force, negligence, infliction of emotional distress on his sister and mother, violation of due process for the parents, and failure by the responding officers to provide first aid to the boy immediately after the shooting. He died the next day.
The suit also alleges false imprisonment of Tamir’s 14-year-old sister, who ran toward the scene after the shooting, struggled with police and was handcuffed and put into a cruiser parked near her wounded brother, notes the news outlet.
When the suit was filed in December, the Rice family attorney alleged that the Cleveland officers “confronted [Tamir] in a surprise fashion” while he “was playing … in the park. He was not endangering anyone, he was not violent,” The Root reported at the time.
A spokesman for the city of Cleveland, Dan Williams, declined to discuss ongoing litigation.
