Jabari Dean, 21, allegedly posted his threat on social media over the Thanksgiving weekend. It stated that he would shoot 16 white male students or staff at the campus Monday morning.

The message noted that the number of his victims would equal the number of times that Laquan McDonald was shot. The 17-year-old was gunned down in October 2014 by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke. A video of the shooting, released last Tuesday by a judge’s order, ignited protests. Van Dyke was arrested last week but posted bail and released Monday night.

The University of Chicago temporarily closed its campus early Monday in response to the online threat.
