New Orleans Saints defensive end, and the Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, Cam Jordan is showing up and showing out for the culture, gifting beloved local veteran and Saints fan Lawrence Brooks tickets to the Super Bowl.
Brooks is not your average Saints fan. He is an esteemed World War II vet who recently celebrated his 108th birthday. Now, to top off more than a century of a life well lived, Brooks is going to be headed to the Super Bowl.
Jordan personally spoke to Brooks via FaceTime, thanking the veteran for his service. The ever-spry Brooks wished Jordan all the best and told him he expected great things from him.
“Definitely get better, I want you to get better!” Brooks said. “Glad to see you.”
According to WGNO-TV, Brooks was born Sept. 12, 1909. During his service, he worked with the predominantly black 91st Engineer Battalion, which was stationed first in New Guinea and then in the Philippines during World War II.
Brooks served under three white officers, and his daily routine included cleaning their sheets, shining their shoes and making sure their uniforms were clean. He also worked to accomplish any task these officers asked of him. During the war, he rose to the rank of private first class.
He celebrated his big 108th birthday, fittingly, at the National World War II Museum.
