Roland Burris Will Not Run for Mayor of Chicago

Former Sen. Roland Burris will not run for mayor of Chicago.'s Jennifer Epstein is reporting that former Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) will not run for mayor of Chicago. A group of friends submitted the paperwork for him to be on the ballot, and he promised to make a decision by mid-December. Facing a Democratic field that includes former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun and Rep. Danny Davis, Burris said Friday that he's not running. Burris did not endorse another candidate.

It is nice to see someone bow out, as opposed to being forced out of an election. Burris has dodged enough political bullets as a senator, and to put himself at the center of an already contentious race makes no sense at all — especially at this stage of Burris' political career. Retire as a senator and keep it moving.
