Queen Sugar Gets Renewed for 2nd Season on OWN

β€œWhen we saw the first cut from Ava, we knew right away that we wanted a second season,” said OWN President Erik Logan. β€œWe think viewers are going to connect with the deeply layered characters and powerful story, and we are excited to be able to share with them Ava’s director’s cut on premiere night without interruption.”

Queen SugarΒ isΒ based on the book of the same name by Natalie Baszile and starsΒ Rutina Wesley and Dawn-Lyen Gardner as estranged sisters who inherit their father's sugarcane land. Nova (Wesley) is a journalist and activist, and Charley (Gardner) is the wife and manager ofΒ an NBA star. Kofi Siriboe also co-stars as Ralph Angel, a young father who's a former convict.
