According to the New York Daily News, authorities found the two girls, ages 7 and 8, sitting in the back seat of an unlocked car in the airport parking lot at around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Their mother, identified as Nidia Joseph-Delgado, had left the car running with the air conditioner on so that they would be comfortable.

The girls told the cops that they didnโ€™t know where their mother was, but gave the cops the name of their school, where officials were able to get officers in touch with Joseph-Delgado by phone about an hour after the kids were found.

Joseph-Delgado was inside a terminal at the airport in the middle of a job interview at the time.

The mother told the cops that her kids โ€œwere fineโ€ alone in the car, according to the Daily News. Nonetheless, officers charged her with two misdemeanor counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child.
