After years of gossip bloggers and fans wondering whether LeBron James would ever propose to his high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson, the suspense is over.

On New Year’s Eve, James proposed to Brinson after eight years, during which they had two sons. The event was a New Year’s Eve celebration and 27th-birthday party for James, but the icing on the cake was the announcement of the engagement, with fellow Heat players Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade in attendance. Toward the end of the dinner, James got on one knee and proposed. Guests were also treated to a special performance by Nas and Lauryn Hill of their classic “If I Ruled the World.”
