All of the above has been rolled into #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay, which happens to coincide with Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl halftime-performance day. For those who don’t know, Timberlake shit on distanced himself from Jackson after she graciously brought him out during her Super Bowl show and set off the infamous “nipple-gate” situation in 2004.
Although the incredible, iconic, trend-setting Jackson has never been asked back to perform at the halftime show (there were even rumors that she was banned for life), Timberlake—mediocre, unoriginal white singer that he is—is headlining on his very own this year. Which is appropriate given the clusterfuck that has been the NFL this season.
Matthew A. Cherry had the brill idea of telling the world who the REAL MVP is, and it took off from there.
