Rivera did a one-on-one interview with San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, who has been the target of President Twitter Fingers’ ever-continuing social media attacks after she complained about his lack of response to the island’s devastation following Hurricane Maria.

On Saturday, while on the golf course enjoying the beautiful weather in New Jersey—because why the hell not—Donald Trump went on a rant, lashing out at Cruz and calling her out as having “poor leadership ability.”

This, of course, came after Cruz begged the U.S. and the president to “save us from dying.”

Because Trump’s was totally an equal and appropriate response.

At any rate, back to Rivera, who, on Sunday, in an interview with the mayor, questioned whether people were reeaally dying, since, apparently, no one had had the courtesy to drop dead in front of him.

“There are all people at all municipalities literally starving, dehydrating,” Cruz told Rivera. “We have had our hospital try to go back to speed, but then the electricity goes off and we have to do all the bacteria testing, which takes three to four days.”

“But are people dying?” Rivera interrupted. “I’ve been traveling around, I don’t see people dying. I spoke to the doctors, they say they saw 53 patients and they had a person who was septic, but nobody dying.”

So that’s when Mayor Cruz, with the patience of a saint, explained how dying works to Rivera.

“Dying is a continuum,” Cruz said. “If you don’t get fed for seven, eight days, and you’re a child, you are dying. If you have 11 people—like we took out of a nursing home—severely dehydrated, you are dying.”

Despite the fact that Cruz took the time to break it down to Rivera, when he closed out that segment of his interview, he once again repeated that there was no “proof” that anyone was dying.

“That’s part 1 of my interview with the mayor, who, as you heard, still claims that people are dying, although the death count is 16, has been 16 since the storm. I could find no one dying,” Rivera said in wrapping up the segment.
