But he’s still wading in uncharted territory: He’ll be performing shows in Europe, except that he’ll be playing at the piano the entire time. BBC reports that Prince’s new European tour, which kicks off later this month, will feature him playing solo piano sets for “the first time in his career.”

In a statement, Prince explained why he’s decided on this format: “Why do this now? For several reasons. For starters it is a challenge,” he explained.

“I rarely get bad reviews because this is something that’s been perfected for over 30 years. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure. You can see exactly what you get,” he added.

Well, kudos to Prince. It goes to show that regardless of how much success or validation you’ve received because of your craft, there’s always room to push yourself to even greater heights and challenges.
