With the sequel of Coming to America arriving in theaters next year and an imminent return to the same Saturday Night Live stage that transformed him into a household name, itโ€™s safe to say that Eddie Murphyโ€™s long-overdue comeback is in full swing. Deadline reports that the 58-year-old multihyphenate dropped the news on a recent episode of the podcast Present Company with Krista Smith.

โ€œNext year, in 2020, Iโ€™m going to go on the road and do some stand-up,โ€ he said, before joking that it was time to get off the couch.

Details on the tour remain scarce, but itโ€™s safe to assume itโ€™s related to his rumored $70 million deal with Netflix to produce an unspecified number of comedy specials. Itโ€™s also possible that his recent role as legendary stand-up comedian Rudy Ray Moore in the upcoming film Dolemite Is My Name sparked his desire to reclaim his throne as the King of Comedy.

โ€œI wanted to have a movie that was really, really funny,โ€ he noted.

And with iconic specials like Raw and Delirious cementing his status as one of the greatest to ever touch a microphone, weโ€™re expecting much of the same from his return to stand-up comedy.
